Grow, Make, Mend.
Welcome to Grow, Make, Mend. The photo diary of one family in the UK trying to live a little better in a busy world.
Turning unproductive lawn into kitchen garden.
Growing some of our own food.
Keeping chickens in our back yard.
Making meals from scratch.
Knitting, sewing, or crocheting. Clothes, bedding, and accessories (including for charities).
Repairing, reusing, recycling.
Upcycling, patching, repurposing.
There’s also an underlying philosophy to these words: Grow, Make, Mend.
Taken by themselves, these actions are simple. Yes, some of them need more time or commitment. Some of them may need a learning curve – I know I’ve learned a lot since this journey began! We make the most of our time.
But underneath, at a deeper level, it’s also about about growing our emotional maturity and resilience alongside our garden, season by season.
It’s also making thoughtful decisions. Such as considering environmentally better options. Maybe choosing to offset carbon or buying to last.
Moreover, it helps us to think about mending our relationship with the busy world we live in, the soil, the culture of ‘peak stuff’, and our own conscience.
